I understand the struggles unique to diabetes. My 20+ years experience with diabetes is both personal and professional. It all started at age 10 when my younger brother was diagnosed type 1 diabetes. At that time I was immediately drawn to the intricacies of managing diabetes and became his official caregiver. Since then, I have had a relentless passion for helping people with diabetes and have dedicated my career to helping people develop their own strategies for effectively managing diabetes.
As a licensed clinical social worker, certified diabetes educator, behavioral health specialist, and health coach, my background and credentials have equipped me to meet your needs. I became the first provider in the state of South Carolina recognized by the American Diabetes Association’s mental health provider directory, which designates clinicians who are experienced in the struggles unique to diabetes. I am licensed in both North Carolina and South Carolina.
I am from the Grand Strand and recently relocated back to the Myrtle Beach area. I earned a bachelor’s of science in health promotion from Coastal Carolina University and achieved a masters in social work from University of North Carolina Wilmington, earning highest honors in both programs. I worked for many years as a behavioral health coach for a North Carolina hospital in outpatient diabetes and nutrition, bariatrics, transition care, and community health education. Throughout my career, I have helped more than one thousand individuals, led numerous programs, and my work has been published and made headlines in diabetes care.
I am available to speak for professional audiences and support groups. I also offer healthcare consulting and medical professional training on behavioral concerns in diabetes care.
